Scent & the Art of the Pre-Raphaelites

THE BARBER INSTITUTE OF FINE ARTS

ART EXHIBITIONS

From October 11th, 2024, to January 26th, 2025, explore “Scent & the Art of the Pre-Raphaelites” at The Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham. Using AirParfum technology, this exhibition invites visitors to “smell the art” and connect deeply with iconic Pre-Raphaelites works.

In collaboration with Artphilia, London based art curators who expand how art is experienced, the exhibition features three custom fragrances crafted by Gregorio Sola Vela, Senior Perfumer at Puig and Camille Latron, Perfumer Consultant. Inspired by Dr. Christina Bradstreet’s research, Scented Visions; Smell in Art, 1850-1914, each scent captures the atmosphere of masterpieces, allowing you to connect with the artwork on a deeper, more personal level, as only our sense of smell allows us to do:

John Everett Millais’s The Blind Girl, The Odour of the Rainbow

John Everett Millais’ The Blind Girl, The Scent of the Blind Girl

Simeon Solomon’s A Saint of the Eastern Church

Following its run in Birmingham, the exhibition will travel to the Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village in Surrey from May 12 to November 9, 2025. Don’t miss this unique blend of sight, smell, and emotion!
